The International Women's Year, 1975
The International Women's Year was created by the United Nations and private organizations to call attention to women's issues. The national organization that oversaw the year's activities was the National Commission on the Observance of International Women's Year; each state had its own Coordinating Committee that raised funds and served as an outreach point to the community.
In late 1975, the decision was made to expand the International Women's Year into the International Women's Decade. With the support of the United Nations, conferences were held around the world to discuss women's issues. The International Women's Decade ended in 1985.
