Miniature blocks U.P.U., 1949, BL1A-4A
U.P.U. = Union Postale Universelle
During WWII, the Belgian Government was in
exile in London, they sold miniature sheets (Belgian Congo BL3-10 &
Ruanda-Urundi BL 1-4)) in benefit of the subscribers of the magazine “Messages
Belgium Review”, which distributed them by one per month. Remainders of these
eight miniature sheets received marginal overprints in various colors in 1949,
specifying a surtax of 100fr per sheet on the occasion of the 75e anniversary
of the Universal Postal Union, 300 series made of twelve blocks
"Message". Paying tribute to the Universal Postal Union by the care
and under the control of the Committee of Cultural Works. These mini sheets
were sold by the Committee of Cultural Works (and not at post offices) in sets
of 12 for 1,217.15 francs. (8x Belgian Congo & 4x Ruanda-Urundi)
